You know what would be awesome?
A #decentralized #selfhosted #federated #identity #server that doesn't require a degree from MIT to install & configure which works with a wide variety of other #selfhosted software. And while we're at it - throw in #Libravatar as well.
Right now, I have a #ring id, a #PGP key, a cloud id (#nextcloud) a mastodon id, a #Matrix id and email - all different.
It's a mess. I really just want to be "Falgn0n" everywhere - y'know?
@er1n @pointers that is #FB and #GOOG protecting their interests
don't have to hack nothing if you just use #matrix directly
@pointers of course it is, they can just use #matrix and be de-siloed.
corporations aren't going to be nice about it and use a federated protocol. #GOOG tried it and found that they only bled users and subsidized competitors.
the only real solution to "i want to use one protocol/system to talk to all of my peeps" is free/open protocols run by non-corporate entities.
you can not like my proposed solution, but i'm not wrong.
if i ever get #swarm running i'll set up a #matrix instance and finally cut #FB messenger out of my life
y'all are invited to my apt tonight
if you have the ability, hmu on #matrix (check my profile) for directions
whatever the case, i'll be celebrating by getting high af

Riot is a free, open source, and multi-platform client based on the #Matrix protocol. To understand it better, think of Matrix as the protocol and Riot as the client. Matrix is a decentralized, secure messaging protocol. It has the benefit of using #HTTP / #JSON APIs, is capable of sending and receiving messages with full end-to-end encryption, supports #WebRTC #VoIP/video calling, and maybe most importantly, offers integration capabilities. Matrix was built to integrate with IRC servers and other #communication protocols, meaning you can use the Riot client as an IRC bouncer.
