I said in another toot in another conversation that I wanna stop using the word "capitalism" when I could more easily use "greed" but I kinda never explained why, and I dunno if it's useful or if I'm talking out of my butt but here's the gist of it.

People outside of this lovely bubble here, when you say Capitalism to them, they don't think of greedy CEO's, they think of, like, "Capitalism/communism/socialism" and those are the choices and in some of those you have money and in some ㄟ(ツ)ㄏ

THE DEETS: This cute lil' doodad is a Pinephone in a Pinephone keyboard case. The phone I got from #fediversefleamarket for, IIRC, about $80; the keyboard case was new and I paid $50 for it, so I'm $130 into this thing. If you buy a Pinephone new it costs $200.

The phone is open hardware, SIM unlocked at the factory, and has all the things I miss: a battery I can remove with my fingers and holes for headphones and MicroSD cards.

@Gargron If folk are reporting it, that's one way of telling you you've gotta have a rule, and asking you for help.

You can also ban anyone you like at any time whether they've technically broken a rule or not; it's just a website, and mastodon is even more Just A Website because folk can pack up and move to another instance pretty easily, assuming they can find a non-Russian pro-Russia server.

@dosnostalgic I played a lot of this on the Amiga when I was little, and I turned out ffffFINE.

@dosnostalgic God I remember those enormous boxes. I bought some Doom multipack once, it was one box that took up half a shelf in the game store. Must've been three feet long, seriously.

I open it up and inside is a cardboard bracer and a paper envelope containing three CD-ROMs. Not even a bloody manual.

@dosnostalgic He looks SO much happier to be on that video game box than ANY man I've seen on a video game box in the last twenty years.

My niece got it, and so did my cousin's daughter, and so have some local pinball people, all in the past week. These are sensible people who take precautions.

Daily infection records broken in the UK, and here in Pennsylvania USA too.

It feels like COVID is knocking on the door, and I'm going back into an earlier, more cautious state.
