@codewiz No chance on that, company refused to do all such things, also to act as guarantor. If other companies are more willing to do that, it's a real plus for people who want to go to Japan.
@codewiz Great to hear you came out with comparable numbers! Yea, resident tax is calculated extra, to be payed once per year, I mentioned it below the table with the monthly deductions. Had not realized so far it was 10%. I also did not look extra here on how many deductions I had on the income via company stock.
@codewiz@benoit I simply used them for chat like everybody else, but they asked at some point for identification papers. Also that huge app, just for chat.. so I ditched LINE some time ago.
@jeeves Regarding 'other distros', at least in Fedora/centos/rhel, the idea is to deploy packages with kickstart and then do configmanagement like Ansible ontop.
I tried Nixos the other day (linux unplugged did a challenge), but I will stick with normal distro + a bit config management. Also applicable to all distros.
Colleagues used Silverblue, but the more devel work you do, so the more flexible you need your system, the less you will stick with that. @codewiz
Article about the "green frog", the train car which was for many years prominently in Shibuya, next to the famous Hachiko statue. In Japanese, "green frog" is 青ガエル. 青 is actually "blue" but also used for "green". So "the traffic light turned green" in #japanese is expressed "青になりました", also using the kanji for "blue".
Fascinating. With Linux on Apple silicon getting usable, I was looking up prices for a Mac mini M1, 512GB SSD, 10gbit ethernet. Germany: 1.144 € Japan: 112,800円, so 850.09 €
I learned that there was actually a bus drivers strike in #Japan, some time ago. The buses kept running. Why would they not? The passengers were not the ones who the bus drivers wanted to rethink their strategy.. but the owners. So the buses were running, just no fee was collected from the passengers. I love this strategy :)
Interesting perspectives on the war in Ukraine from Kohei Saito.
In short, - Russia has delayed shift to renewable energy as much as they could, to stay exporting gas - Ukraine's soil can help Russia when climate crisis leads to sinking crops yields - Ukraine has gas, and resources like lithium, needed for energy revolution - space industry and IT are big in Ukraine
There are apparently no nice devices to measure power consumption for electric devices with Japan power plug, making the data available via network. For Germany, I would take the Expert Power Control 1202, has even rj45 connector. KDE has just started a project to measure kde-desktop power consumption, they use the Power Control 1202.
