In #japanese , you can spell "2" as nyan/にゃん, so 22nd Feb 2022 is called "super cat day" over here. We had companies reworking their webpages with cats and quite some media coverage: https://youtu.be/VdWzBhkKtJg
"I respect the individual choices of all Londoners in this 1854 cholera epidemic. If you have cholera and want to defecate in the drinking water, that is your individual freedom. If you are afraid of getting cholera yourself, simply don't drink, cook, clean, or bathe with water."
Off to Kyushu in the south of Japan to burn left over holiday. I just entered the Yufuin-no-mori train, one of the special trains only operating in Kyushu. On the mobile, a tech talk from Tokyo Linux user group, mobile network coverage is great!
「資本論」斎藤幸平さんに聞く“脱成長”の真意 日本では初めてそんな話を聴いたので、すごく嬉しいです。 "Let's overthrow the idea of endless growth", talk with Saito Kouhei. Finally such topics also start in #Japan, glad to see this happening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pqhLWZLdyg
@codewiz That's right, and that's the piece which I still need to adapt to. ctrl / alt / fn / super / space is the order here. I'm a VIM guy and also jump forward/backward in lines often using 'alt', that feels still a bit awkward. Will see what it's like in 2 weeks.
Just right before the festive days: the System76 Launch keyboard arrived, my first keyboard with real switches. It's nice, so far! It's an 80% model, has exactly the keys I need, and typing just feels great.
Which OpenSource pieces have you discovered this year, which software have you stopped using? The Linux unplugged election of the 'software pieces of the year' made me think on what changed for me this year. https://blog.fluxcoil.net/posts/2021/12/2021-opensource-linux/
@codewiz I guess that's a question for the mozilla folks.. the way I understand it is that they first make new things just available via env variables or about:config, and when it's considered stable that goes default. (The cynic in me whispers: mozilla are busy with much more important stuff.. like implementing advertisements from 'partners', which they stated recently)
