@technowix @kfist @mike @azurolu @yumi If they want to live in a padded room that's blocked from the rest of the federation, good on them. They're not forcing their expectations on us and everyone gets what they want. But trying to forcefully spread their lists to other instances though is an attempt to police people's speech. It's no longer just trying to avoid reading stuff you don't want, it's trying to stop others from being able to read it.

@skoll @delores One of the things you might hear is "if someone is mugging you then don't resist, guns only increase the danger!". To which the answer is: "if someone is mugging you, they are already clearly irrational actors. Possibly on drugs, or in dire need of drugs. How certain are you that they won't freak out and kill you anyway if you cooperate, because they think you can identify them?"

@skoll @delores When I bring this up, the counter-argument I receive is systematically: "but cars are useful/necessary, while guns are only useful for killing". There are two traps there: if you argue that they can be used hunting, you'll be pushed towards accepting regulation to restrict handguns or guns or accessories not typically used for hunting. If you argue for recreational shooting, you will be made to feel bad that your "little hobby" or "object fetish" is getting people killed (you'll get that from people who think Jim Jefferies is an expert on guns).
The tougher, but correct course of action is to maintain that self-defense using a gun is not only socially acceptable, but happens a hell of a lot more often than they believe. Use the "but you hate and don't trust cops!" argument, the "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away" argument, and the "cops and ex-military tend to support private ownership and carry, so clearly the experts believe in gun self-defense" argument.

I try to watch Centaur Life, but I just can't. The moe aspect is good, but there's something awkwardly political about it. It's not that it's that heavy handed, but just feels so out of place. Like the author, or the people in charge of the adaptation, wanted to get some hits in under the radar. I don't know if it's setting things up for later in the show (I'm just up to ep 3) or if it's just sneaking this stuff in for its own sake, but I don't think I will stick around to find out.

To be honest, I don't understand why the police even vaguely tolerates the concept of a counter protest. If they consider it within their job to make sure protests don't turn violent and disperse them if they do, why allow a group to yell insults right at people's faces?
What do they think is going to happen? Hugs? Pepsi?
No; if a group has dutifully informed the police of their intent to protest, and gotten whatever authorization is required, then any other group trying approach them to protest them should be very forcefully dispersed. Anything else is inevitably going to lead to violence.
