KFist (kfist@gs.smuglo.li)'s status on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2017 17:59:58 UTC KFist @roka @shpuld @eal It's a major tell for leftists. Ask someone why they think people dislike gays, muslims, people from other nations, etc. Leftists usually use the terms homophobia, islamophobia, xenophobia. It's always "fear of the unknown" or "closed-mindedness."
But are people actually afraid of gays, of muslims, of people from other nations? Maybe, if only for their actions. But what's the best indicator for generally conservative thought? According to multiply-repeated studies using the Big Five personality traits, the most reliable indicator of conservatism is actually conscientiousness, while the most reliable indicator of liberalism is neuroticism. Openness is nearly independent of political views.
But one of the most reliable indicators of conservatism and those doubleplusungood -phobia terms is actually disgust sensitivity. People aren't afraid of homosexuals, they're disgusted by them. People aren't afraid of muslims, they're disgusted by them. People aren't afraid of foreign nationals, they're disgusted by them. Disgusted by their actions, or by their lack of trait conscientiousness. Just read Mein Kampf or speeches by Hitler or Goebbels. Did they say that people should be afraid of the Jews and therefore should hate them? No, they couched everything in terms of disgust and orderliness, in terms of the health of the nation. Note the vocabulary. The Jews are a parasite upon a nation, they are a bacillus, an infection upon the national body, they must be expunged, cured, removed in order to encourage the health of the nation and the people.
It's right there, right there in plain sight as to the motivations of all these so-called "homophobes" and "islamophobes" and "xenophobes." In writing! Repeatedly! But it's ignored because the leftist worldview insists upon a certain lens, a lens which always demands the projection of motivations and beliefs onto others. In their view, they're always right, everyone is always fundamentally motivated by the same things (because everyone is always the same, save for muh societal conditioning), and therefore any personal experiences the left possesses must hold true for anyone with a different political opinion.
So when you hear someone say that conservatives or right-leaning types are actually afraid of change, afraid of the unknown, afraid of the other, they're wrong. They're just projecting their own motivations (neuroticism, nervousness, fear) onto people they fundamentally misunderstand, who are actually motivated by conscientiousness and disgust. It's a fascinating topic, and it's getting to the point where some of the only consistently repeatable social studies are those that indicate high correlation between fundamental personality and political leanings, including the disparity in motivating factors between people with different political beliefs. -

Except when it comes to looking at crime statistics.
Or looking at the validity of statistical studies.
Or acknowledging any sort of evolutionary psychology (which is now apparently a "pseudoscience" which seems to be a term now used to describe scientific reasoning that ends in ideologically-incorrect conclusions)
Or acknowledging the entire field of biology when it comes to humans. -

Using electronics in your bedroom, aside from really basic shit like alarm clocks or ebook readers, is really fucking bad for you. The moment I moved anything more energy-pulling than a phone charger from my bedroom, I started having really great sleep. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/851938 -

KFist (kfist@gs.smuglo.li)'s status on Saturday, 23-Sep-2017 04:18:58 UTC KFist @gitgud Far, far more, on a scale that goes unnoticed and unrecognized, because to admit to it means undermining the narrative of World War II. The war was the founding event for the modern world, and it was a war of atrocities.
It's difficult to talk about the atomic bombings since they were the somewhat inevitable culmination of strategic bombing of civilian centers, a concept that went back all the way to the Great War, that saw its maturation during the bombing of Guernica, and led to the destruction of so many cities. Henry Stimson and Carl Spaatz even pressed for expedited usage of the atomic bombs just so the firebombings would stop all the sooner, and even then casualties in Tokyo in just two firebombings between August 6 and 15 alone caused more casualties than in Nagasaki. Henry Stimson was so horrified after seeing what the firebombings were doing in Germany that he personally intervened to keep Kyoto off the regular and atomic bombing lists because he had seen Kyoto himself a few decades earlier and didn't want it to go up in flames.

KFist (kfist@gs.smuglo.li)'s status on Saturday, 16-Sep-2017 22:08:47 UTC KFist @dolus @moonman @histoire @extebert One man one vote works if universal suffrage isn't inherent to the system. I'm still fairly adamant about the Starship Troopers-style Heinleinian democratic republic system being the best option, even if it's impractical in the current political climate. Somehow "you have to spend 2-5 years of your life doing a brutally difficult job, whether military or civilian, in service of the state in order to earn voting rights" isn't politically correct.
To me it seems absolutely fucking ludicrous to let the average pleb have direct and indirect control over the sheer capacity for violence and suffering that a modern first-world state can provide, simply by virtue of birth or staying in the country long enough. One of the main kvetching points of the modern US left is letting Trump have the unilateral power to use thousands of nukes, without wondering about the system that let him have that power to begin with, and without acknowledging that they themselves are part of the system that allows him to have that power. -

KFist (kfist@gs.smuglo.li)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Sep-2017 21:45:40 UTC KFist I genuinely believe that the defining question of this time will be "Is democratic rule even a good thing?"
Obviously the defining question of last century was that communistic rule was an unmitigated failure, but now it seems that it's democracy's time to fail.
Is democracy too dependent on small-population politics to succeed on large scales? Is 10 million the breaking point? What about ethnic questions? Democracy works well during the mono-ethnicity nordic model, but we can see Sweden implode even as Norway and Finland continue strong, with comparable GDP, population, infrastructure, and only differing in amount of ethnic disparity.
"May you live in interesting times" has never seemed more of a curse as today, but it's still fascinating. -

Instead, they're taking control of their own Mastodon forks and not giving a single fuck what Garglecum might think. Overall this is disconcerting for the Ganoo/Social-linked federation, but also extremely satisfying because some SJW cuck is watching his baby Mastodon get taken over by the Japanese just like they took over Korea and he can't do anything about it.
Modernize the fuck out of Mastodon, Japan. I believe in you. -

KFist (kfist@gs.smuglo.li)'s status on Monday, 04-Sep-2017 20:11:00 UTC KFist >music with strong melodic and technically complex structure
>lyrics talk about things like crossing mystical rivers, achieving great feats, recounting ancient traditional tales, or musically interpreting historical events
This is clearly hateful and leads to the corruption of children. Please, won't someone think of the children?
>music with repetitive backbeats and a technically simple structure
>lyrics talk about things like killing whitey, performing felonies, abandoning children, tribalistic urban warfare in [Current Year+2], meaningless status symbols, and performing degenerate acts in order to amass material wealth for the fuck of it
This is diverse and a culturally rich expression of urban culture. There is literally nothing wrong with this music at all. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/790189 -
