@tom79 I found it a usefull function which I'm currently using via @andstatus
with this it makes the usage of the fediverse even with very low internet connection a joy.
...or when just having it temporarly available.being able to choose to download media or not might be usefull

@silverwizard Different "Types of Social Networks" in #AndStatus correspond to different client APIs. Friendica's client API was adapted to be compatible with #GNUSocial specifically to be able to use client applications, which work with GNU Social. -

This is wrong. #OStatus is a server-to-server protocol, #AndStatus connects to servers using server-to-client protocols. This is why AndStatus doesn't know and doesn't depend on OStatus protocol.
Moreover, #Mastodon 's client-to-server protocol is still based on outdated Twitter like API, not on #ActivityPub, unfortunately.

@andstatus At the present time there is no alternative which can possibly unite the free web. The only way I can see to move forward is for projects to support multiple protocols into the foreseeable future.
There are some interesting developments in the works. Unlike ActivityPub, I believe that discussing any alternatives before there are solid specifications and tested implementations would be foolish.
I will note that the basis for ActivityPub is ActivityStreams2, which is a well designed and extensible specification. It is however merely a serialisation and not a transfer protocol. If you paired ActivityStreams2 with a solid transport protocol you would have something useful. So supporting ActivityStreams2 is still a good idea. Unfortunately, ActivityPub frequently confuses data and transport and puts a lot of additional constraints on the data which aren't present in AS2. Keeping the AP data restrictions separated from the lower AS2 data layer so that the transport layer can be cleanly replaced is a bit of a challenge. -

Feature 1 is already available: you can configure "Tap on a Timeline title" to switch to your Default timeline in Settings -> Timeline (see attachment).
Feature 2 looks like some "Quick filter" that you need to configure somewhere and then turn on/off just like now you can "Collapse duplicates" (checkbox in Navigation drawer)... Maybe simply another checkbox: "Show actions", turned on by default?! https://quitter.no/attachment/1389663 -

As I understand, we are talking about "Basic authentication" at https://community.highlandarrow.com site?!
Just now I made this test from my Windows 10 PC + Google Chrome browser helping to show that the problem is not specific to Android:
1. In tab 1 of the browser navigate to https://community.highlandarrow.com/main/public .
2. Web UI opens.
3. Authenticate yourself, if not authenticated yet.
4. In the tab 2 try to access URL of the Home API:
https://community.highlandarrow.com/api/statuses/home_timeline.json
5. JSON response with social network messages appears without any credentials prompt.
6. Switch to the tab 1 and log off (click your avatar at the top for the log out menu item).
7. Switch to the tab 2 (where you're at https://community.highlandarrow.com/api/statuses/home_timeline.json ) and refresh the page.
8. "Authentication Request" popup opens.
