@cr1901 @davidsgallant Putting a censor in your head that you have to listen to in everything you write isn't to be taken lightly. Of course it's nice to accommodate others' needs. But this isn't a private club for your friends, it's a public forum.
I mean, as far as I can tell, they defederated from most instances without CWs. They can do that, so there's no problem in the end. I just really don't like they style of discourse that contains an argument of the form 'if you don't do this very specific and unusual thing I want you to do, you're just not a decent human being'.

@cassolotl mastodon puts HTML data into a non-html field.

Honestly mastodon this is the biggest of your federation breaking fuck-ups. https://social.heldscal.la/attachment/381638

@johnnyoftheswamp Here's one recent example of the attitude: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/1813. A piece of code in mastodon led to increased traffic that hammered many of the smaller instances. This was first dismissed as invalid with a 'not my problem' attitude, but later fixed after someone else actually looked into it.
-
@johnnyoftheswamp The blocklists are one thing, but there's also been a general attitude of not caring about the rest of the fediverse and established conventions.
For example, both federated deletions and retweets didn't work from mastodon -> gs, because the xml of the generated activities was different. This is for no reason other than aesthetic judgment. I 'fixed' the retweets in GS, but the deletions are still broken.
Other basic GS features like groups and polls will never be implemented by mastodon, it seems, as the main dev doesn't like them.
Emoji were done as :shortcodes: until last release, which made them look wrong on every client except mastodon...
The list goes on. It's all kind of small stuff that adds up.

@floopfloop @shpuld It works like this: GS is the base, qvitter is both a new frontend and a backend extension that adds some more api endpoints for stuff like notifications. Pleroma is just a frontend, but it uses some of the API endpoints that qvitter adds.
The only reason we don't use the notifications endpoint is because it has a bug in it that makes it only usable with cookie-based auth, which pleroma doesn't do (yet). I'll fix this in qvitter some day and try to get it merged. We already got a similar mute-related bug fixed this way.
There's also Pleroma BE, which is an experimental new backend that also implements the GS/Qvitter API, but is a complete rewrite. That's still in development, though.

Hey !pleroma users, I opened up registration at https://pleroma.soykaf.com/registration, my full stack pleroma test instance. If you want to play with a bit, feel free to make an account.
THIS IS ALPHA QUALITY SOFTWARE. THERE IS NO FEDERATION YET. THE DATA COULD BE DELETED AT ANY TIME.
That being said, if you registered and posted around a bit, that would help me get some real world usage data.
You can also use it in Twidere / Twittnuker with the same settings as GS.

-
Tell me this, captain. If your federation is so great, why do you hide your timelines behind a registration form?
-
@crecca @dredmorbius That's not what I mean. We had this a few times in the already:
1. XY-themed instance opens up
2. Instance becomes popular, closes registrations
3. I find out about instance, want to see whats on it
4. It's not possible because I can't see their public timeline.
This is possible on GS, where the public timeline is actually public.
-
When a GS instance closes registrations, it just means you can't register. When a Mastodon instance closes registrations, it means you have no way to see what's on that instance if you are not already following people there.
