    @adam @chris @johncdvorak It is a good articles that 'gets' the real difference between a federated system and the walled gardens of twitter / fb, but I wish it didn't also present Mastodon as completely new. The network it is a part of has been running for a decade, just with less media attention.

    I don't think follow bots are a good idea, because they make the federated timeline the same on every node. Without them, the federated timeline is still an expression of the interests of the node's users.

    @lolkat @djsundog one big problem with mastodon user discoverability is that there is no real public timeline that you can see without being logged in. In gnu social, you can just see the public timelines right away (see pleroma.heldscal.la) and find new people to follow that way.
