Nattō is an ubiquitous home breakfast food. It's fermented soy beans covered in a slimy fluid similar to mucus, and has a pungent smell.

It's clearly an acquired taste. As a foreigner, sometimes I get praised for being able to eat nattō 😆

The high school of my friends' daughter was previously boys-only. They started admitting girls 5 years ago, and it's still mostly boys.
