I arrived in Tokyo just in time to join a birthday dinner for my friends' daughter.

@alm10965 With this level of self-, consciousness, there's no need for the boss to do anything to make a Japanese employee feel humiliated.

If an employee goes like "it's not my fault" or "come on, no big deal", *that* would seriously put their career in danger. Nobody likes a coworker who won't properly take responsibility and apologize. They'd be labeled as "selfish", and punished with silence or something.

@alm10965 I suspect it's mostly self-imposed discipline and, secondarily, peer pressure.

Like many Japanese workers, JR employees take great pride in precision and excellence. Any mistake, particularly those causing visible service disruption, make them look bad in front of everyone. A spontaneous and genuine apology would be expected.

別に！There's a Shinkansen every 10 minutes, and if I wait 20 minutes I can ride a Nozomi (the fastest N700).

Even though I have to change 7 different trains, the schedules are usually aligned to minimize waiting time on the platform.

The trip to Tokyo was 4 hours long, with many local trains and a long Shinkansen section from Shin-Kobe to Shin-Yokohama 🚅

It's common for ryokan to have relaxation rooms with large windows for nature contemplation.

This one also has a rotenburo (open air bath) with a forest & mountain view 🤩

From top-left, clockwise:
- Soba with tororo (薯蕷, grated yam),
- Black soybean nattō (never seen it before doesn't taste much different),
- Aemono (和え物),
- Cold tofu with negi.

On the left, nori seaweed and tsukemono (漬物).

On the right side, three pieces of agedashi tofu (揚げ出し豆腐), which is one of my favorite #vegan washoku:

And the salad is just an ordinary salad, but nice and fresh.

Ryokans tend to serve great washoku breakfasts 😋

This one is 100% #vegan, and 3 times what I'd normally eat in the morning.

More work on surface-stable fractal dithering. The dots are now based on a (bayer) 8x8 ordered dither pattern.

Note how the dither patterns follow the surfaces from small to large, yet the dot sizes and spacing remain roughly constant in screen space.

I also replaced the hardcoded light with support for Unity's lighting/shadows/specular.

I don't even need this for any project, it's just an idea I had since playing Obra Dinn, and needed to try out.
