@cwebber yeah this is very concerning. the GPL is still great! the 4 freedoms are still essential! I don't want to see this situation taken advantage of by people that want to dilute free software until it is completely destroyed by the corporate open source and proprietary "open source as in you can see the source but that's it" factions.

I'm seeing a lot of calls for re-examination of FOSS values. In a sense I agree largely: I've myself been arguing for critical re-examination and re-articulation of FOSS principles. However, I see a lot of people calling for things that have been shown to be broken (the non-composability of CC *-NC and *-ND licenses are an example). That's making me fairly nervous that we're going to undo a lot of the structures that have allowed for collaboration and enter an era of confusion.

I nominate jxself for president of the FSF. I've always enjoyed his commentary and viewpoints on free software.

I want to schedule a call with people about ActivityPub, the fediverse and sustainability (financially, mentally and what not) but semi-closed door, oligarchic conversations help no one. This post is me asking about what efforts are being made to bring sustainability into the open social Web.

How can I go from not having anything to having an online presence as an artist to sell wares online (like zines, images, videos)?

Even with a concept of licensing?!

Well I also jump in because I am quite shocked by the whole thing. I do not think that its about leadership, but more about community organisations, it has been very long that people say rms is problematic, and it has been like shouting in the void, I wonder maybe even he will still be invited to speak as a hero. And people will continue claiming being apolitical why promoting the violent system in place.

I am interested in a critical analysis and re-formulation of the foundations of our principles. Principles matter, and it's probably about time that we examine them more carefully than relying on the thinking of one person, even if that person has done a good job at the *philosophy and principles* portion historically.

(That's not to say that what rms said in particular this time isn't deeply... troubling and significant, just that the pattern and the difficult situation it puts us in is what I'm interested in bringing to light to my fellow activists.)
