Two DOS versions of Tetris make appearance in the Tetris movie trailer, both presented as being played on a Famicom:
    - the Spectrum Holobyte 1988 version, played by Henk Rogers' kids
    - 1986 Academysoft version, played by Hiroshi Yamauchi

@tomnardi I mean, did you see the trailer? I don't think accuracy was their goal.

Doesn't seem to bode well for the accuracy of the production...

@thomasbeagle Wow. Not a lot of people can say that. Most people discovered Tetris via its later commercial releases.

@dosnostalgic That 1986 one, that's the Tetris that ruled my dreams and delayed my uni essays.

Of course, I wasn't playing it on a Famicom either. :)

@dosnostalgic I loved the 1988 one! Instantly recognizable.

Wonder if they couldn't get the rights to show the Famicom one for some reason.

@dosnostalgic i'm wondering if the 1986 character mode version was chosen for that scene simply because it looks "earlier", more primitive. weird random choices all around, it's not like there aren't experts out there with working hardware who could've told them exactly what would look the most accurate / coolest to use.

@mcc @jplebreton This one is also featured in the movie as a version that runs on Pajitnov's PC at home (something that he most likely didn't have.)

@jplebreton Having seen the trailer, I don't think this movie concerns itself with accuracy of any sort.

@dosnostalgic it's stupid when the first Tetris for Famicom was Tetris by BPS produced by Henk Rogers 😅 (which comprared with the versions released for computers, like MSX 2, PC-98 or X68000 was poor). I think this film is more "let's do a Cold War fantasy" than what actually happened.

@salva_pl@mas. Yes, it's clearly an exaggerated semi-comedy instead of anything resembling the actual story.

@dosnostalgic Ohh tnx a lot for the info! I did wonder which versions they are.

Tbh as long as they don't go way too crazy exaggerating the actual facts, I'm fine with it. Since these shots only take a few seconds (and the technical aspect isn't the priority) it's normal to not spend much time/money with them, especially if the licencing might've been harder.

@brianch Judging just by the trailer they are playing *really* fast & loose with the facts. KGB car chases, Russian mafia, Maxwell personally threatening Rogers, etc.

@dosnostalgic lol yeah, there's already signs it might go too much into the fantasy direction unfortunately.

But well, let's see, only when the actual thing gets released we'll know for sure.

@dosnostalgic @mcc @jplebreton Yeah, if the David Sheff version of the story is right, Pajitnov got his first home PC after all this, *because* of the Tetris rights export
