Pieter Hintjens had a policy of merging "correct" patches as soon as possible, with some minimal definition of correctness. Many people, me included, were skeptical about that, but now I tend to think he was right.
In his definition a valid criticism of a recently merged patch should be the submission of a correcting patch. This avoids a lot of waffling, finger pointing, flaming and other non-coding nonsense. -

@Gargron @Elizafox @0x1C3B00DA regardless of the mental gymnastics you use to justify this level of stubbornness the fact is that mastodon posts look borderline unreadable on gnu social. The fix for this is pretty trivial AND has already been done for you. You can fix the issue or you can continue doing whatever the hell you think it is your doing and continue having your users suffer.

@maiyannah @xj9 yes. In the wider culture if via the dominant media forms you can spread distrust and misinformation then you can keep the factions blaming and fighting each other. That's pretty much how minority rule works and a large part of what racism is about. -

@xj9 that's another aspect. If you're young white and male then some people will tell you you're "privileged" even though you have almost nothing and are barely surviving. That also breeds resentment. -

@xj9 The reasons why some people become fascists can be fairly understandable.
If you are white and male and living in a poor neighborhood then you're on the lowest rank in the social pecking order (see Lisa McKenzies "Getting By"). You often see immigrants or people who don't look like you getting what appears to be favorable treatment from the state. Public services are stretched to the limit and you seem to be crowded out of any sort of assistance. There are no "traditional jobs" for young, white working class men anymore. You want to make something of your life, but other people seem to always be keeping you down. The folks who really rule your hood in the most practical day-to-day sense are probably not the same skin color or religion. There is no "ladder" to climb and no opportunities to be had, but if you can get armed and organized with your mates then maybe there's a chance you can "take back control".
If you don't have much education and your peers have always told you that reading is for suckers then it's easy to blame immigrants or Jews or feminists or other minority groups for your problems. Easy scapegoats. -
