Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 13:06:18 UTC Bob Mottram @ocdtrekkie @schestowitz the source documents are around somewhere, but the TL;DR is that they can get the metadata, chat text and audio stream. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 12:58:16 UTC Bob Mottram @maiyannah Ideally I think this probably should be done at the queuedaemon level such that it never gets into the database, but for now it's probably good enough. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 12:56:55 UTC Bob Mottram @maiyannah yeah I noticed the leaks. I'm doing something similar but for more tables and with a block list configurable via the control panel. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 12:51:46 UTC Bob Mottram Added some blocking scripts to !Freedombone such that if any gnusocial content from blocked domains gets around the firewall (via replies/conversations and such) then it still gets scrubbed from the database. It's a hacky solution, but might make for a better user experience. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 12:47:17 UTC Bob Mottram @ocdtrekkie @schestowitz Microsoft re-engineered Skype so that they could hand the data over to their NSA buddies. I think some of the Snowden documents cover it in detail. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 10:12:18 UTC Bob Mottram Skype has been known to be backdoored for years, so these can't be very smart criminals -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 09:43:40 UTC Bob Mottram @masoud @maiyannah they do, but it's a last resort solution and isn't really sustainable. To have a sustainable way forward the board design needs to be published so that it is manufacturable and we don't have to guess what firmware it might contain by reverse engineering. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 09:37:24 UTC Bob Mottram @maiyannah @masoud there are existing systems which are some of the way but not all the way -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 09:15:08 UTC Bob Mottram @maiyannah yes. Although there are exceptions most of the Free Software people I've met or communicated with in the last few years are very unlikely to be able to afford a Novena Heirloom or a Talos workstation. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 09:04:25 UTC Bob Mottram The ideal Free Software laptop has in my opinion not yet been invented. It would: - have no boot blobs
- Have corresponding board schematics usable in kicad or similar
- Use Free Software compatible wifi
- Be shipped with libre distros
- Have no proprietary graphics acceleration
- Be affordable to the precariat
- Be practical as a laptop (unlike the Novena)

Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 08:55:50 UTC Bob Mottram @schestowitz my main concern about the Pinebook is the boot blob. If it wasn't for that I think it would be ok. -
Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 08:29:27 UTC Bob Mottram @aral @gargron @byterhymer it's a standard term. You'd need to persuade a large number of people to change a large amount of source code if you wanted to call users something else. The chaos might be considerable. Also being a user doesn't preclude being a producer simultaneously. -
Dr. Roy Schestowitz (罗伊) ✅ (schestowitz@mastodon.technology)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 00:19:42 UTC Dr. Roy Schestowitz (罗伊) ✅ Yesterday, for a period of time, number of users tracked by #mastodon was 1.3 million. Due to one oddly-sized instance.

Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 07:34:26 UTC Bob Mottram @maiyannah @linuxsocist I'm not going to attempt to support mastodon on !Freedom one because it sounds like it requires too much RAM -
Maiyannah Bishop (maiyannah@plateia.org)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 06:24:20 UTC Maiyannah Bishop Not really sure I have much trust in a big company to go in a good direction with Mastodon, but it can't be too much worse than the mainline. -
Mike Gerwitz (mikegerwitz@social.mikegerwitz.com)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2017 06:47:07 UTC Mike Gerwitz Hmm...my GNU/Linux system doesn't exfiltrate _any_ of this stuff; I fear that my system must not be "secure" and may not be "operating properly"!
