@gargron @nullkal however, I'm not sure that it's a great idea to have instances with massive numbers of users. That puts a lot of responsibility and cost onto the admin, which they may not be able to sustain. It's also difficult to have much affinity with thousands of users, and so Twitter-style disputes/fighting will be much more common on the larger instances. -

@rysiek @mmn scaling is easier with p2p than with client/server. So it would be possible to imagine an IPFS version of gnusocial which just stores posts within some directories which other users could then subscribe to. Something like that would be a lot more scalable, particularly for popular feeds. -

@u2764 A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. If you want to make a change it always has to begin with yourself. -

@lambadalambda I'll be interested to see how that works out. Possibly if there is eventually a working full stack Pleroma then I might add it as a separate app on !Freedombone, rather than just as a front end to gnusocial and postActiv. -

@mmn @rysiek I don't know what happened to Ello, and don't especially care since it's proprietary. It was flavor of the month for a brief time, and many people said they hated the UI. Things which don't federate or which aren't P2P won't scale and you just end up with the same problems as the existing silos. -

Glad to see from yesterday's Lunduke interview that Stallman is aware that there are problems with Signal. Hopefully he will convey that in some of his talks. There has been too much uncritical Signal boosting from celebs in the past. #signalrant -

It may be that prosody just doesn't scale well and ejabberd is better for larger instances -

Later this morning #mastodon will reach the 800 instances milestone, with 300,000 users, i.e. almost 10 times as many as month ago!

@gitgud Interesting note: at least 50 instances are all on DigitalOcean. "Decentralized" huh? -

So the word/phrase filtering in Pleroma is how content filtering ought to work. That is, the user decides if they want to hide certain posts and not the author of the post trying to imagine what all the users might think of it and adding CWs accordingly. -

@maiyannah I think it's from the gnusocial settings. Not very intuitive, so that could be improved. -

@maiyannah I have "Trump" on the Pleroma's ignore list and that seems to work well. I know Trump is awful, but I don't need to be informed about every single outrage or dumb thing he says at a press conference. -

@0xf00fc7c8 I expect Mastodonland will get around to implementing groups eventually. The Titanic moves slowly while the deckchairs are being rearranged. -

I just spent a couple hours checking out !gnusocial groups from this list. http://www.skilledtests.com/wiki/List_of_federated_GNU_social_groups #mastodon users don't know what they're missing!
