@arunisaac It's a good point. I've also read elsewhere that the performance of yacy is not very good, and that's fairly understandable because it will have a relatively limited capacity for web crawling.

Search is the big problem. Often it has been said that search can't be done well in anything other than a centralized way. I'm not sure that's true, but at least that's historically how it has been done.

Another point is that access to the SearX metasearch is also password controlled, so that millions of random users on the interwebs can't use your box as their favorite search url.

So SearX is now added to !Freedombone in the manner that I'd originally envisaged, such that the path between you and the box is onion routed and also the outgoing query from the box to search engines is also onion routed.

This of course means you can use engines like Google, but for me that's a feature rather than a problem. There are still other pretty good Tor accessible engines out there.

The meta discussion is getting quite tiresome and mostly comes from busibodies whom seem to think they can dictate to other instances how they act.  You cannot, nor would it be proper for you to do so even if you could.  Block, don't, or move on.  In fact, move on irrespective of blocking or not.  This is not a monolithic organization where you can get everything you dislike or that makes you uncomfortable banned by some central authority of Doubleplus Ungood Police.  If you dislike this, I suggest returning to Twitter, the Fediverse is not for you.

The difference between the communists on the Quitters and the communists on the Mastodons is that the communists on the Quitters could probably fight for a revolution and the ones on the Mastodons melt down over a rude pony avatar.

The aim this year is to try to get as many useful apps as possible into !Freedombone, making it the most comprehensive userops system out there.

So it looks like SearX will now install as an onion service with outgoing socks5 proxy. I'll tidy it up and call it another !Freedombone app.

@sonya @lambadalambda there was plenty of criticism of Mastodon before the latest Twitter exodus, but to be fair it's still quite new and has some way to go.
