@bekopharm And you have no proof speed limit enforcement is always done in good faith in Italy either. Besides, it’s almost irrelevant, as this is more about people’s trust in their government, whether it is clean or not. Drivers everywhere complain about speed traps, but not every country has someone actually act on this resentment.

@bekopharm @xelot @codewiz What if they lied about it in the first place? What if it is claimed to be for “safety” when it was actually to line up the pockets of some local government official? I’m not saying it’s always the case, just that it is possible.

@bekopharm I know for a fact it happens in the US, so I will never take it for granted that traffic enforcement, either by humans or machines, is always done in good faith. It is a shame because it’s the one area where public trust actually saves lives, but that’s how it is unfortunately.

@bekopharm Assuming that there's a baseline of government cleanliness across the EU is misled. A summary search shows that transparency.org rates Germany 79/100 for corruption perception (the higher the least corruption people perceive) while rating Italy at 41/100, it's a completely different cultural paradigm even though both countries are in the EU.
Still, I agree with you on the defensiveness and self-rationalization of drivers, but I believe it is irrelevant to this particular situation.

Welcome to my new followers after my most popular #Fediverse post ever!

I realize I don't have an #introduction post up, so this is a good opportunity to fill the void. In short, this account is a dump. A mental dump of what I have to blurt out to the world.

Here I'm mainly known for working on #Friendica (#programming ), one of many pieces of software part of the #Fediverse. We strive to be compatible with as many decentralized social media protocols as possible, at the moment we're compatible with #Diaspora, #ActivityPub (think Mastodon) and #OStatus, with optional connectors with #Twitter and others.

I also own a second-hand #LEGO store front where I sell sets and parts: store.bricklink.com/MrPetovan

I have an 8-year old kid (#parenting ), play #VideoGames and often have opinions about them.

Friendica doesn't have a post character limit but I still infrequently post longer pieces on my blog: blog.mrpetovan.com

Last bit you may want to know about me before following me on here: I am not in favor of absolute free speech. Online spaces need to be moderated to counter the real life discriminating power dynamics.

@Angle @codewiz Unfortunately COVID always carries the risk of permanent damage to your health, and no amount of infections makes the immune system well prepared for the next so it should absolutely not be a reason to take fewer precautions not to catch it.

Today is #Fediverse12, the 12th birthday of the first post published on the #Fediverse by @evan on #Identica.

Back in late 2016 I'm glad the #Fediverse (comprising OStatus/ActivityPub-compatible social networks) and the #Federation (comprising Diaspora-compatible social networks) welcomed me when my #Facebook account was frozen and I was (and still am) too stubborn to give in to their demand to give me back access to it.

I've been contributing to #Friendica ever since, mostly through dogfooding through my own single-user node.

Happy Birthday to us and thank you to everyone who has contributed or still is contributing to this mind-boggling common project.

The racist policy itself isn't exactly news, but officers coming forward to clearly spell it out certainly is to me. Props to them, they are risking their livelihood in this highly corporatist environment.

Bots aren't allowed here

Yesterday I took the decision to block botsin.space/ from my single-user instance. I've grown increasingly tired of automatically generated content coming from this instance. I feel it's a cheap way to replace human writing using monkeys and typewriters, and I don't condone it.

Late #introductions

Hi, I'm Hypolite Petovan, and it's my real name even though it isn't my official name. I'm a PHP Web Developer, since 2016 toiling on #Friendica, a decentralized social network aiming at maximum compatibility with other decentralized social networks. I have been intending to make games all my life even though I ended not pursuing it professionally.

I have a daughter born on 2014 that I'm trying to raise correctly, I used to be centrist, have been radicalized on Internet and now supports marginalized people to the best of my abilities. I could have been a tech bro and this terrifies me.

I know a little about a lot, likes instrumental energetic music and abstract geometric art. I am sensitive to light and sound and easily drained by social interactions. However, I will happily show up to a meeting with people I met online. I like putting faces on display names.
