@strypey There was a spanish fork of elgg called Lorea a few years back. It became very popular during the Spanish Revolution/Arab Spring. The Lorea devs said they had federation with Ostatus working, but I tried to make it work and it didn't. Then the project came to a nasty end about a year ago. The database was lost (or taken hostage), never recovered, and thousands of activists lost all their records, assembly acts, documents, forum contents etc, etc. -

@vinzv There were already people on quitter/se who valued the freedom of federation before it became popular, and I remember how they made an effort to teach the new users who came later. I don't know if that same culture pre-existed on mastodon. -

@bob Are there any good articles out there that explain the responsibility of running a node? Anyone who opens the doors to users on their node should know that 1. That it comes with (moral) obligations that can't be taken lightly. 2. Nodes should keep running even after their not trendy 3. Long term maintenance is not always fun 4. Server costs must be payed.. forever 5. When you grow old and tired you need to find an Admin that understands these same principles to take over for you. 6. More users means 24/7 7. You ain't gonna get payed. 8. Those users who sign up in droves will never value your dedication 9. If you fail you will feel bad. If you don't feel bad you should never have set up a node in the first place. -

Seems #mastodon is trending (I'm a bit slow off the mark). Reading on the Internets I'm surprised how some/most articles, supposedly written by people with technical knowledge, make absolutely no mention of !gnusocial. Oh well, being in the lime light was never the reason anyway. Long live the !fediverse!! -
