@cybercow i considered that, but I am more curious if someone will read it. Even if you already know it may help clarify it better or the reader might have valuable feedback about something I dont cover.

@brolf technically speaking there really isnt anything we call multiplication. Its either the dot product or cross product. Usually if someone says multiplication they mean one of those if its in matrix form.
The question really boils down to, why not just define matrix division and multiplication to be the same as complex form multiplication and division (which would give us three different ways to multiply matrix vectors).,..
Thats the question id try to answer.

If I did a write up explaining the difference between complex number representation of vectors vs Matrix/Linear algebra representations would anyone be interested in reading that?
I feel it would be useful to explain why and how multiplication is different between the two and why division on matrix vectors is forbidden but allowed in complex form and the repercussions of that.
Might also be useful to go into some explanation as to how to intuitively know when to use one or the other (something even i struggle with from time to time).

@alex_ It will be a lot to write up, but i feel it might make a good journal entry and can copy it over to our discourse for others as well

I'm a free speech lover and I like this place to be a platform for our users to get in touch with as much as they want of the fediverse, as long as there is no **active** harassment of any of us.
The rest is up to the users and the clients, they have a lot of power in carving their own informational niche, and that one of the big reasons why AP exists in the first place.
I understand that people may not be familiar with the technology, which has never had this scale of usage, but if you want freedom and independence is it too much to ask that you just search "mastodon how to silence instance", or whatever you may need?We as mod are also always here to answer doubts and help our users to get the best out of this place, but no, I personally would never take the arrogant decision of what is good or bad for others to be exposed to.
Please, @evaristus , if we want to talk about it in a serious way could you please open a topic on discourse? We encourage this kind of discussion and it would be easier for anyone to follow.

@muehlfield less money is worse than more for those in poverty. I think it would be hard to disagree on this definition of worse.
I would word it more like "Employers often benefit from a huge supply of unskilled laborers with low market value". I'm not saying that is entirely the workers fault, it is the systems. But I wouldn't paint the company as the bad actor here, the issue is a system which doesnt provide better means for unskilled workers to become skilled workers.
Generally a company isnt really exploiting anyone, they are just paying whatever a workers skills happen to be worth.

@muehlfield I'm not sure I fully agree. I'd rather see 100 people in poverty than those same 100 people with no income at all, which is far worse.

I understand, and I very much appreciate you sharing your perspective.
I wonder, did you read our about page before joining. The fact that we are moderated in this way is something we are rather explicit about.
As for if we struck a good balance or not, well I guess thats not for me to decide. Ultimately if the users are unhappy about something I'd want to hear it. Thats why I suggest opening a discourse topic if it is important to you.

I am suggestion the instance is minimally moderated in only the most essential ways.
That means for federation purposes we garuntee ones right to disengage.
For the local instance we guarantee people will interact with each other reasonably respectfully.
Obviously the level of moderation we hold for our local users is somewhat stricter than what we impose on entire instances.
Of course everything is open for discussion. If you think this is a bad policy I suggest you open a topic in the moderation section of ur discourse instance and myself, other moderators, and users would be happy to discuss it and consider changing our current policy.

Thats pretty much the age old argument of security vs liberty... But worse yet, it isnt really security as just laziness. Less work for the user at the sacrifice of liberty (preventing them from hearing objectionable material if they wish to).
It comes down to, are you willing to have someone dictate to you what is or is not objectionable just to save a few minutes of work?

@thj Questions and curiosity is the only way to learn. But yea sadly most teachers dont know how to break that barrier with their students, it is a shame. That is one reason I try to be very generous with teaching others when and if they are interested in learning.

Why do I like Salmiak, what is wrong with me, how did the Dutch get me hooked on this vile stuff! It is like using Windex as a mouth wash, but somehow I still love it!
