@suprjami The more I think about that, the more I like it. Will go ahead and be the first one doing a session to introduce the desktop and basic tools I use for my job in January. Will announce to supporters in advance, schedule for a Friday afternoon, people free to attend/ask questions via video confcall, and record and put onto the intranet. Maybe you want to be next then, we could also do ice-bucket style and nominate people we are curious about :)
@benoit I got new glasses this time after just one year. Not self inflicted scratches, but one could see a pattern on the lenses - they claimed this was due to me using glasses in the onsen and putting other stress on them.
@codewiz Interesting concept.. I wonder how many Japanese IT businesses really get English adopted widely so they can benefit from English-only workers. I looked at access stats to our documentation the other day, and more than 20% of the accesses are to the Japanese variant, not English. Of course, that's mostly end customers and not support people.. but it shows how much people here demand service in Japanese. @m1m0mtd@benoit@nippon
In the last weeks, the daily influx of new items in my mastodon timeline, here in the browser window, has gone up. Just natural as I follow more people.
In the evening, I shutdown the system, in the morning the browser tab shows the last entry, and I have to scroll down until I hit items in the feed which I have seen before, then I can scroll up and read the new items.
This became harder recently - how is everybody dealing with this?
@codewiz Wait until you see how much quarantine days they decide for you :> How big is your hotel room? Just in case we need to meet there instead of the restaurant..
@benoit@codewiz I guess like for my mother they ask to install the app, and that you register yourself with the app and your location, and then to "that in that place until end of quarantine". Took then at least in case of my mother a full day until that "end of quarantine" was displayed on the app, I think same day as she registered/so arrived.
@benoit Visa stuff massively changed indeed - she got the visa as I'm living here. Tourists can as of this week get the visa as easy as before Corona. Not sure on how much changed regarding Corona this week for people entering Japan - she also effectively had not to quarantine, but it took a day for that to appear in the app. @codewiz
@codewiz@benoit The first company I experienced was so big that I could 'fly under the radar' at that time and run Linux, $workplace[now] allows it directly. For Rakuten I can to some degree imagine they could have certain requirements from dealing with financial stuff directly. But running Linux with secureboot and having there userland which can remove all data once started is possible as it is on wintendo and mac.
