@maiyannah @jjg I didn't know that, so it might be worth investigating for the "onion only" version of !Freedombone. The might be some hardcoded clearnet stuff too. I think some Google maps stuff was left in gnusocial (I removed the rest) and that will surely be clearnet. -

Here's the thing: Instances with very disparate social views can and do coexist fine in the GNU social and wider fediverse ecosystems, but they have to WANT to coexist, and many of Mastodon's authoritarians abhor that which they cannot control. -

@micahflee There are also other reasons for phone security, apart from attending protests and the NSA. Domestic violence and child abuse are scarily common. If your phone is encrypted then if it falls into the wrong hands at least there's a chance that they might not find out who you've been talking with.
