As far as I know Fairphone is unique, but hopefully other manufacturers will take notice of what is possible.
Also, thanks to @kylejj for pointing out that FP3 will support 3G in the USA:

Yup, raw materials which directly fund ongoing wars.
"Blood diamonds" are probably the most famous, but they can be any raw material.
I think that's something you would have to ask @philgyford
Privacy and FLOSS are really important, but they're not the only things that are important.
People who make the rich world's cheap hardware are poor people being being exploited really badly.
Only Fairphone is actually offering an alternative to this, and for that they deserve respect.
No one else is doing this, everyone else is pretending this problem doesn't exist because it's out of sight and physically distant.
You're right we need to get ordinary people using degooglised alternatives ๐
It's just the way you introduce people to alternatives, it isn't always easy or straightforward.
It's already difficult to get people to look at something new :blobsad:
If you ask them to do two new things simultaneously, they tend to do neither and just go back to whatever they are familiar with :blobcry:
Because most people have no idea what free software even is.
They're advertising to a mainstream audience, and it's usually a good idea to introduce just one new concept at a time (here the new concept is paying more for fairer hardware).
Fairphone also make a de-googlised version of Android for people who want to install it:
It comes with standard Android by default, but there's also an official de-googlised version of Android available:
Because it's official it's relatively easy to install, much easier than e.g. Lineage.
Currently the site talks about FP2, I don't know when this will be available for Fairphone 3.

@switchingsocial - do you have a good list of alternatives to Google Keep? Am looking at Automatic's SimpleNote and Firefox Notes.
Yup, that's what it is.
He livetoots continually from his diaries, which continue until 1669. He's currently on 1666, so in our time it will continue until 2022.
These are private diaries, but he seems to have wanted them preserved for future eyes as he made sure they were catalogued in his collection.
Because they're private, he talks about many things surprisingly openly, even affairs he has had.
For those who don't know it, the Great Fire of London destroyed pretty much all of central London.
Pepys' home was right on the edge of the disaster area.
History fans!
The noted diarist (and administrator of the Royal Navy) Samuel Pepys is livetooting from London 1666 at:
Unfortunately for Samuel, the Great Fire of London starts very soon on the 2nd September. This should be a fascinating event to follow in real time.
Anyone interested in this period of European history might want to give him a follow.
does anyone know of any green, renewable energy-run VPS services that are also affordable? (5$ a month tops)
Try @Carnet or @joplinapp ?
