If you must gather analytics, please don't use Google Analytics. GA helps Google to spy on your visitors, and to spy on your site too.
A more privacy-friendly alternative is Matomo (aka Piwik):
It's free and open and can be self-hosted, or you can use their paid cloud service instead.

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Aug-2019 11:53:31 UTC switching.social It does seem to be a popular alternative.
However, it is important to also emphasise that the free-of-charge version of DeepL is not private. (The DeepL site explicitly says you have to pay for privacy.)

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Aug-2019 11:34:18 UTC switching.social Apertium, a free open alternative to Google Translate, is currently under development (https://apertium.org).
However, there is some disagreement in the development about whether to use certain third party services which may affect privacy:
https://github.com/apertium/apertium-html-tools/issues/288
I'm not a developer, so I don't know what the technical trade-offs are here with viability vs privacy.
However, if you are a developer interested in the project, please do make your opinion known in the thread above.

I don't know what else you're referring to, but Fairphone has definitely not broken promises of providing degooglised Android.
They have it here for Fairphone 2, and they are still updating it too:
-
switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Aug-2019 18:08:53 UTC switching.social Yes, they said there will be an update released after launch which will let people replace standard Android with degooglised Android (just like Fairphone 2 already has).

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Aug-2019 17:43:25 UTC switching.social Here's what a Techcrunch article quoted on the official forums says:
"Out of the box the phone comes with Android 9 preloaded. A post-launch update will make it easy for buyers to wipe Google services off their slate and install the Android Open Source Project instead."
"The updater will come post-launch, according to van Abel, who notes that around 5% of Fairphone users opt to go full open source."

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Aug-2019 17:41:36 UTC switching.social Apparently it is planned and will come after launch.

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Aug-2019 17:32:02 UTC switching.social Update on this point, Techcrunch article quoted on the Fairphone forums:
"Out of the box the phone comes with Android 9 preloaded. A post-launch update will make it easy for buyers to wipe Google services off their slate and install the Android Open Source Project instead."
"...buyers will be able to switch for a non-Google alternative โ via an updater that will let them wipe and install the Android Open Source Project flavor of the OS."

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Aug-2019 17:25:34 UTC switching.social I think they're having to balance paying a fair wage with keeping the price at a reasonable level.
In this situation, the only thing they can ethically compromise on is specs.
If they'd higher specs, it would have put the phone out of a lot of people's price range. If they'd used cheaper materials, it wouldn't have been fair any more.
